TORONTO, CANADA – August 31, 2026 – In alignment with strategic initiatives to honor the Vietnamese language among overseas communities, the Viet Youth Readiness Hub (VYRH)—a core initiative under the Canada Vietnam Cultural & Educational Council (CVCEC)—successfully hosted a community orientation and networking event. Timed to celebrate the upcoming Day for Honoring the Vietnamese Language (September 8) and the new academic year, the event served as a vital bridge helping students transition into the Canadian education system. It reinforced a powerful message: empowering a generation of youth who are globally minded yet deeply rooted in their cultural heritage and mother tongue.
Launched in April 2026, VYRH was established to address the practical needs of families navigating the North American educational landscape. The Hub is a non-commercial, community-driven initiative spearheaded by Phan Thi Quynh Trang, Founder and President of CVCEC. Developed and validated through the Urban Leadership Fellowship program at the University of Toronto’s School of Cities, VYRH equips Vietnamese students with the mindset and skills required for academic adaptation while creating structural mechanisms to preserve the mother tongue within the diaspora.
The project champions youth leadership and cultural diplomacy by focusing on three strategic pillars:

Implementing a Policy-Aligned Educational Model: Integrating heritage language preservation, cultural immersion, and global citizenship into urban public school frameworks, starting in Toronto. This ensures youth can maintain their mother tongue within a robust international education environment.

Supporting Cultural Integration and Identity Development: Bridging the gap between a growing immigrant population and the need for culturally responsive frameworks in formal education, helping young newcomers and Canadian-born youth stay connected to their roots.

Fostering Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Connecting school boards, universities, and community organizations to co-design culturally relevant programs. This ecosystem-building approach significantly strengthens Canada–Vietnam collaboration and education diplomacy at the community level.
During the recent event, cross-generational interactive activities brought together newly arrived international students and Canadian-born Vietnamese youth. By utilizing Vietnamese as the primary language for all activities, the program created a dynamic space for authentic cultural transmission and active language practice. Newcomers were equipped with the confidence needed for their academic journeys, while local youth deepened their connection to their heritage.
