TORONTO, March 2, 2025 — The Canada Vietnam Cultural & Educational Council (CVCEC) joined Toronto’s Vietnamese community to celebrate Tet Nguyen Dan, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, welcoming the Year of the Snake with families and friends of all backgrounds.

Through community gatherings and cultural activities, CVCEC highlighted Tet as a Vietnamese celebration rooted in tradition, identity and family.

Activities focused on three elements:

  • introducing the ao dai, Vietnam’s traditional dress;
  • explaining that Tet is the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, with its own customs and history, rather than only part of the broader “Chinese New Year”;
  • demonstrating how to wrap banh chung, a traditional sticky rice cake, along with Vietnamese calligraphy and stories about renewal, gratitude and family unity.

CVCEC thanked the partners, volunteers, students and community members who took part and wished everyone a prosperous Year of the Snake.
