At the Canada Vietnam Cultural & Educational Council (CVCEC), we have always believed that cultural identity is not just a link to the past—it is a cornerstone for building the sustainable cities of the future.
Today, we are thrilled to announce a major leap forward in this mission: Our Viet Youth Readiness Hub (VYRH) project has been officially selected to join the prestigious Leading Urban Change program at the University of Toronto’s School of Cities.
A Seat at the Table for Vietnamese Youth
Out of numerous applicants, VYRH is honored to be one of only 16 initiatives chosen for this year’s cohort. This isn’t just an achievement for our organization; it is a vital opportunity for the Vietnamese-Canadian community to have a voice in the urban development conversation.
Through this program, the CVCEC team will collaborate and exchange insights with an elite network of:
-
Urban planning experts and policy leaders.
-
Public system representatives from Toronto, Mississauga, Calgary, and the Peel Region.
-
Leading urban organizations from across Canada.
What is "Leading Urban Change"?
The School of Cities at UofT designed this program as a professional powerhouse for teams implementing real-world change. It focuses on the strategic tools, processes, and solution-oriented frameworks needed to move a project from a "great idea" to a "systemic solution."
Our Vision: Beyond Heritage Education
Joining this cohort allows CVCEC to elevate our community work into the realm of policy and structural impact. Our goals during this program include:
-
Standardizing Our Model: We are working to transform heritage-based education into recognized policy solutions that foster long-term, sustainable cultural integration.
-
Optimizing Support for Newcomers: By learning from urban management specialists, we aim to refine how we assist newly settled families in navigating the complexities of Canadian urban life.
-
Amplifying Youth Voices: We are building a platform where Vietnamese youth don't just "fit in," but actively contribute their perspectives to the social and civic fabric of Canada.
Looking Ahead
The presence of the Viet Youth Readiness Hub alongside major infrastructure and policy initiatives across Canada confirms a deep truth: Community social cohesion is the heartbeat of a thriving city.
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to our parents, partners, and the community. Your continued support allows CVCEC to take these strategic steps forward. We look forward to sharing the insights and growth that this UofT partnership will bring.
